FareShare & The Felix Project

Our national partner FareShare UK and our friends The Felix Project are merging to form one charity in 2026. WHY? Well nearly 1 in 7 people still face food insecurity while 4.6 million tonnes of good food is wasted each year. This is just unacceptable.

Together with the FareShare Network, of which FareShare Yorkshire is one of the longest-serving members, we know that demand is rising and 8 in 10 charities fear they cannot keep up, especially as food costs rise.

FareShare Yorkshire remains an independent charity working in close partnership with the new national charity to unlock as much surplus food as possible for communities across England’s largest county. Building on our 26 year track record, our amazing team of volunteers and staff across Leeds and Barnsley enable 360 charities and community groups to feed 42,000 people each week – but we must do more.

We are excited about the future and the opportunities that lie ahead. The merger of our national partner and Friends at Felix will bring greater strength, innovation and collaboration to tackling food insecurity, and we are proud to play a vital role in this mission. With the dedication of our team and the unwavering support of our communities, we are determined to grow our impact, reach more people in need, and ensure that good food is never wasted but instead shared with those who need it most.

270,000 tonnes of perfectly edible food gets wasted by the food industry each year.

That’s enough for nearly 650,000,000 meals
