Pye Bank CE Primary School- “By providing the food parcels, we know that children will be fed.”

Pye Bank CE Primary School is based in Sheffield, providing a welcoming and friendly environment to all children and families within their school circle. They strive for children in the feel happy and safe in the school, recognising the potential of each child and working in partnership with parents, carers and staff to ensure the children’s needs are met.

They are a faith-based school, in the heart of a diverse community and they respect and value this through love, ambition and kindness.

Pye Bank joined FareShare Yorkshire as a community food member in 2011.

Karen Stanley, School Business Manager at Pye Bank, said;

“When we get food from FareShare Yorkshire, we divide it into food parcels for families suffering with financial crisis, benefit delays or those who are vulnerable. The pastoral team work closely with them. We were able to keep providing substantial food parcels throughout the pandemic too. FareShare Yorkshire membership is a brilliant way of feeding the families who need it the most. By providing the food parcels, we know that the children will be fed.

“Pye Bank is a school set in an area of very high deprivation with more than half our children in receipt of free school meals. Being a community food member is a vital part of the pastoral support we give to our families, as we provide our most vulnerable ones with weekly food parcels. The school has a large number of Muslim pupils, so we often struggle to provide our families with a full meal to meet their needs. The addition of halal chicken products meant that we could give those families a substantial package of food.”

270,000 tonnes of perfectly edible food gets wasted by the food industry each year.

That’s enough for nearly 650,000,000 meals
