Being a Community Food Member – Community Awareness Programme

“The Community Awareness Programme in Wakefield has been supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable people for over 20 years, and sadly the demand for services is higher now than ever. The Centre in the heart of the City is open every weekday and provides practical relief in the form of hot meals, clothing & household goods, furniture etc as well as vital advice, support and encouragement to help people get their lives back on track.

Around 20,000 hot meals are provided every year, and FareShare Yorkshire provide a vital part of the supply of food to be allow that to happen. In 2017 we received over £11,000 worth of ingredients for our meals, which was a total of FIVE and a HALF TONNES of food on weekly deliveries with impressive efficiency, dependability and performance. The cost of this to us was £20 per week.

It is vital for our client’s welfare that the food we provide is nutritious and of the highest quality. We maintain a 5-star registered kitchen facility and we feel utterly confident in the supply of food that FareShare provide in this regard.

The meal we provide is central to the personal relationship and support we give every one of our clients. Eating together is the first step in sharing with each other and enabling real change to take place.”

270,000 tonnes of perfectly edible food gets wasted by the food industry each year.

That’s enough for nearly 650,000,000 meals
