Station House Community Association: “As well as reducing costs, it supports our efforts to reduce waste.”

Station House Community Association in Rotherham provide quality and affordable childcare. From after school clubs, to holiday clubs and playgroup, Station House offer an array of support for families.

They have been a community food member with FareShare Yorkshire for over 12 years and receive a mixture of ambient, fresh and chilled with their order.

Charlotte Williams, Chief Executive of Station House, said;

“The food we get mainly goes towards meals for our playgroup children, including breakfast and a healthy midmorning snack. As well as reducing costs for us, it supports us in our efforts to reduce waste. We can have a more varied menu, so we don’t get stuck in a rut with what meals to create!”

Station House believe that food being at the centre of what they do gives them so many positive outcomes.

“As well as keeping children fed, healthy and teaching the importance of life skills, we use food as a social event. There’s nothing better than a good chin wag over a meal!” says Charlotte.

“There is a rumour that children don’t like fruit, but that has proven to be untrue at Station House. Our children love to try new things, especially when the parents try it too. It’s the little things that make a difference, just having some extra fruit or piece of cheese can turn a sparse meal into something interesting and substantial.”

270,000 tonnes of perfectly edible food gets wasted by the food industry each year.

That’s enough for nearly 650,000,000 meals
