Being a Community Food Member – Communi-Tea

Communi-Tea Cafe provides accessible and affordable quality food and drink as well as activities to services users, residents, students, volunteers and community groups.  Due to food received from FareShare Yorkshire it is now an affordable venture for customers and one that encourages them to return on many occasions. It provides social interaction, support with health and wellbeing and many varied community-based activities for residents of Doncaster who need different kinds of support.

The menu features wholesome simple breakfast, lunchtime and afternoon tea choices at a fair price due to our partnership with FareShare Yorkshire.  It engages all members of the community and allows for the area’s most vulnerable young people and adults to belong, whilst being safe, and have food products offered to them at a significantly reduced price, or for a small donation so that the Café can be self-sustained and operated with qualified Job Coaches and Mentors.

Communi-Tea Café provides a much-needed community-based food operation that specifically identifies and prides its workforce as predominantly individuals with SEND or sufferers of mental illness. Currently in the Doncaster area there are numerous cafes but none of which offer such opportunities to SEND and sufferers of mental illness

By working with FareShare Yorkshire and having access to the surplus food provided, our non-profit organisation is able to significantly reduce our food bill and outgoings, whilst also reaching more people who would otherwise not be in a position to access such wholesome and high-quality food produce.

By receiving such produce, Communi-Tea Café is able to offer a wider menu choice and deliver activity sessions with a minimal charge whilst also offering a meal with every activity. Without FareShare Yorkshire we would have to increase food and drink prices, increase activity prices, thus creating barriers to accessibility of our provision for Doncaster’s most vulnerable, and what our original vision of what a Communi-Tea Café customer would be.
